The fortified town encircles an undeveloped hilltop, and from its open spaces the surrounding landscape can be viewed. In the foreground of this photograph is the stone volume (with chimney) of one dwelling's freestanding 'black kitchen', a term describing the sooty patina of its interior; and beyond it the spire of parish church dedicated to Sv. Danijel (Saint Daniel), part of the castle complex.
