The drive shaft of the mill is turned by a horizontal, bladed wheel, powered by a diverted channel of the stream's waterflow, as seen in this view. The drive shaft thus turns the grindstone within the interior of the mill. The wooden posts that support the mill are braced with diagonal members to ensure stability against the forces of water and mill operation.
